Job Summary

Strategy & Tactics Press publishes three military history magazines Strategy & TacticsWorld at War, and Strategy & Tactics Quarterly) distributed in the US and internationally. Decision Games produces several lines of history strategy board games—one game line is paired with the magazines to make Game Edition issues that combine a magazine and a game.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented artist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a range of experience with monthly print publications and the ability to meet scheduled deadlines.

Primary duties include

• Communicate with the Managing Editor and Art Director to discuss the appearance and content of magazine issues including maps, diagrams and other visuals.
• Create diagrams and edit existing maps within our house style using Illustrator.
• Conduct online image searches for the articles following international copyright restrictions and historical accuracy.
• Clean up images for print publication using Photoshop.
• Complete attractive page layouts within our house style using InDesign.
• Track ads for insertion using Google Sheets and manage/update files using file sharing services.
• Take magazine issues through pre-press and digital proofing.

Requirements

Must have experience using desktop publishing software such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, and Microsoft Suite.

2+ years of print design experience preferred. Must provide samples of previous work.

Completed or progressing towards a bachelor's degree in graphic design, product development or related field is a plus. Interest in tabletop games or history a plus.
