PROGRAM SPECIALIST - SPECIAL EDUCATION
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. California special education credential
2. Knowledge, training and experience in developing special education curriculum
3. Ability to design and coordinate special education staff development program
REPORTS TO: Administrator as assigned
JOB GOAL: To provide leadership and assistance necessary to develop and implement special education curriculum and staff development plan
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitors and provides coaching/assistance that supports implementation of District-adopted special education curriculum programs
- Monitors District special education curriculum to ensure implementation to state standards and appropriateness for student population
- Provides resource assistance and information to school staff on curriculum issues; consults with team liaisons, assists staff in selection of appropriate supplementary instructional materials, provides coaching
- Acts as resource for planning instructional inservice for school staff and district and provides leadership and/or assistance in its implementation (i.e., coaching cycle)
- Conducts timely needs assessments for curriculum and staff development purposes
- Organizes curricular and staff development committees
- Researches current special education methods and materials
- Assists in designing of staff development plan
- Coordinates special education staff development activities
- Maintains necessary records
- Assists in the implementation of special education programs/procedures at school sites to maintain state and federal compliance
- Facilitates and/or participates as member of Individualized Education Program (IEP)
- Develops, maintains, coordinates, and facilitates special education staff development trainings for teachers and instructional aides
- Provides one-to-one and group assistance for developing complaint IEPs
- Observes, consults and assists with school site support staff to maintain open and effective communication relationships
- Researches and trains in newly adopted district curriculum
- Performs other related duties as assigned
SALARY: $66,949 - $132,959 annually (192 days. max salary includes educational stipends)
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the District's "Improvement of Professional Services" handbook, Board Policies and Procedures and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable

Copies of required certificates, transcripts or diplomas may be submitted with application. District may require that originals be presented for verification prior to employment. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator's license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
