Lead Data Platform Architect

2026-01-19     New Charter Technologies Llc     all cities,AK
Description:

We believe talent deserves a human touch. Your application will be read by an actual person who's excited to discover the real you.

Summary

The Lead Data Platform Architect responsible for designing and building the data infrastructure to support business decision-making.

This role is data-outcome-driven. The architect starts by understanding:

  • What decisions New Charter leaders need to make
  • What data must exist - and be reliable - to support those decisions
  • What scalable architecture will best supportthe data infrastructure for these decisions
Only then does the architect design and implement the simplest architecture that works, scaling complexity only as business needs to evolve.

This is a hands-on role combining architecture and execution. You will design, build, and operate data and integration platforms that turn fragmented operational data into clear, trusted, and usable insights across 30+ operating companies.

New Charter is at an early stage of analytics maturity. Success in this role means creating clarity first, not building the most sophisticated platform on day one. The initial data architecture should be designed to scale with the business.

This position reports to the Senior Vice President, Business Performance & Integration.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Decision-Driven data & Integration Strategy
  • Design data and integration capabilities starting from business questions and decision needs, not tools or platforms.
  • Partner with the SVP, Business Performance & Integration to define a pragmatic, outcome-based roadmap for data, integration, and automation.
  • Ensure architectural decisions balance reliability, scalability, security, and business value.
  • Align architecture strategy with the Steering Committee and the Office of the CISO.
  • Data Platform Architecture
  • Design and implement the minimum viable data platform required to support enterprise and OpCo decision-making.
  • Build and evolve ingestion, modeling, transformation, and orchestration pipelines (ELT/ETL) based on demonstrated business demand.
  • Establish clear, consistent definitions for core metrics and datasets across operating companies.
  • Implement governance, data quality standards, and schema discipline appropriate to platform maturity.
  • Evolve the platform over time into a more robust data lake or warehouse when justified by volume, complexity, or analytical need.
  • Partner with BI, analytics, and downstream consumers to ensure data is trusted, discoverable, and usable.
  • API & Integration Services
  • Design and implement pragmatic API and integration frameworks (REST, GraphQL, webhooks, event-driven patterns) to support real business workflows.
  • Own API lifecycle management including documentation, versioning, security, and performance.
  • Evaluate and implement integration platforms (iPaaS, middleware) when they reduce friction and manual work - not by default.
  • Leverage AI-enabled tools where appropriate to improve ingestion reliability, anomaly detection, and automation while maintaining strong governance.
  • Cross-Functional Enablement
  • Work closely with IT, Business Performance, Finance, Sales, Service Delivery, and Product teams to translate operational needs into usable data.
  • Provide architectural guidance during M&A, system migrations, and new platform rollouts with a focus on speed to clarity.
  • Act as an escalation point for complex integration and data design decisions.
  • Security, Reliability & Engineering Discipline
  • Ensure all integrations and data flows adhere to security, compliance, and risk standards.
  • Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting to ensure platform reliability and trust.
  • Establish CI/CD, version control, and automated testing practices appropriate to platform maturity.
  • Design systems that are maintainable by future teams - not dependent on tribal knowledge.

Required Experience
  • 7-10+ years in data engineering, system integration, or enterprise architecture roles.
  • Strong hands-on experience designing and building data platforms that support analytics and decision-making.
  • Experience with ELT/ETL, SQL, data modeling, and data governance.
  • Practical experience evaluating and using data platforms such as Snowflake, Azure SQL, Databricks, or similar.
  • Hands-on experience designing and integrating APIs and distributed systems.
  • Strong cloud architecture experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Ability to balance technical rigor with business pragmatism.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally and explain architectural tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Salary expected to begin at $190k and up dependent on experience.

Preferred Attributes
  • Experience in an MSP, technology services, or multi-business-unit environment.
  • Experience with integration platforms (e.g., MuleSoft, Boomi, Zapier, Workato, or similar).
  • Familiarity with data security and compliance frameworks (SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR).
  • Experience supporting analytics, BI, or machine learning pipelines.
  • Agile/Scrum leadership experience.
  • Experience supporting BI, analytics, or data science teams.
  • Comfort operating in low-maturity environments and building clarity from ambiguity.
Success Indicators
  • Leadership can answer core performance and operational questions without manual data assembly.
  • Metrics are trusted, clearly defined, and consistently used across operating companies.
  • Architecture complexity matches real business need - no shelfware, no overbuilt platforms.
  • Platform adoption precedes platform expansion.
  • Infrastructure is build with expansion in mind, architecture continues to evolve and scale with business needs
  • Data reliability improves decision speed and confidence across the organization.
  • Integration and data foundations support growth without becoming brittle or opaque.
