The Fountain Group is currently seeking a Hybrid Upstream Process Engineer for a prominent client of ours. This position is located in Lexington, MA. Details for the position are as follows:

• Pay: $45-68.96/hr.
• Hybrid role: 2-3 days/week onsite
• 9-month assignment with possibility for extension or conversion based on performance and budget.

Responsibilities:

• Design, execute, and analyze experiments to support continuous process improvements in upstream, clarification, and ultrafiltration operations, enhancing robustness, capacity, and productivity.
• Identify opportunities for process optimization, reduce recurring deviations, and improve safety and compliance within commercial biologics manufacturing.
• Troubleshoot complex process discrepancies and quality investigations, providing root cause analysis and actionable solutions.
• Prepare high-quality written documentation, including study proposals, research reports, investigation reports, tech transfer documents, and scientific presentations.
• Apply engineering and scientific principles to scale processes from bench to pilot or GMP manufacturing scale.
• Maintain organized data and documentation in compliance with GLP/GMP standards.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, QA, QC, PD, Engineering, and RA to support process development and problem-solving.
• Engage with external vendors and suppliers to support laboratory and manufacturing operations.
• Stay current with new technologies and proactively contribute to process development and improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's/Master's degree in Biochemistry or Chemical Engineering or related disciplines required
• Minimum of 1 year work experience in the biotechnology industry required
• Strong background in upstream manufacturing/mammalian cell culture required
• Scale up experience from bench to pilot plant or GMP manufacturing scale required
• Experience with depth filtration and ultrafiltration (DF/UF) preferred
