Job Description Summary:
The William & Mary School of Education and Department of Curriculum and Instruction invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as an assistant or associate professor of Literacy Education, beginning in August 2026. We seek candidates who demonstrate deep conceptual knowledge of reading development and pedagogy and who will contribute to and expand a culture of literacy scholarship, teaching, and outreach at the School of Education. The candidate should have expertise in at least one of the following areas: reading and/or writing development and instruction, reading and/or writing interventions, or coaching and school leadership. The selected candidate will play a key role in two programs: our online reading specialist program and our face-to-face elementary BAEd and MAEd programs.
The selected candidate will join a team of highly collaborative K-12 Curriculum and Instruction colleagues. The department comprises 17 faculty members and currently includes undergraduate and graduate programs in elementary and secondary education, special education, literacy leadership, gifted education, English as a second language (ESL) & Bilingual Education, and a dual endorsement in ESL. Responsibilities for this position include the following: (1) Maintain and expand upon a record of scholarship, including contributing regularly to refereed publications, national and international presentations, and grants/contracts; (2) Teach a 2-2 load of undergraduate and graduate courses in reading and literacy education, primarily supporting the Reading Specialist and Elementary Education programs; (3) Actively support programs through student advisement, serving on committees, and contributing to ongoing program development; (4) Constructively contribute to faculty governance and organizational improvement through service to the program, department, school, and university; (5) Productively engage in service to the profession through meaningful involvement in professional organizations and collaboration with local, state, national, and/or international educational agencies.
