Job Description
Our client is seeking a skilled and motivated Specialist to play a key role in supporting and managing the Transmission Service Studies process. This role is responsible for overseeing various business and technical functions that ensure compliance with the Open Access Transmission Tariff (OATT), NAESB, FERC/NERC regulations, and internal policies.
This position requires strong analytical skills, technical judgment, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. The Specialist will regularly engage with internal teams, external stakeholders, and policy decision-makers to coordinate study activities, analyze data, and support the integrity and efficiency of our Transmission Services operations.

Job Responsibilities / Typical Day in the Role

  • Transmission Planning Stability Engineer evaluates system performance during contingencies, models generator, transmission, and load dynamics, and identifies upgrades or mitigations needed to maintain NERC and our reliability standards.
  • Transient stability
  • Small-signal (dynamic) stability
  • Voltage stability
  • Frequency response and oscillation analysis
  • Develop, maintain, and validate dynamic models for generators, inverter-based resources (wind, solar, BESS), loads, and control systems.
  • Analyze system performance under N-1 and extreme contingency conditions and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Support interconnection studies for new generation and transmission projects, including renewable and inverter-based resources.
  • Collaborate with planning, operations, EMS, and protection & control teams to assess system impacts and operational limits.

Evaluate the impact of system changes on:
  • Stability margins
  • Transfer capability
  • System reliability and resilience
  • Use industry-standard power system analysis tools (PSSĀ®E, PSLF, PowerWorld, PSCAD, DigSILENT PowerFactory). PROMOD
  • Prepare technical reports, study results, and recommendations for internal stakeholders, regulators, and external partners.
  • Support real-time operations by providing stability expertise during events, disturbances, or system emergencies.
  • Participate in model validation using disturbance monitoring data (PMU, SCADA, EMS).
  • Stay current with industry standards, NERC reliability requirements, and emerging grid technologies.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field
  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience in power system analysis or stability studies
Strong understanding of:
  • Power system dynamics
  • Control systems
  • Generator and inverter-based resource behavior
  • Experience with power system simulation and stability tools
  • Knowledge of NERC reliability standards and grid planning criteria
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills
