Job Title: Direct Care Staff

Location: Bakersfield, CA 93306

Employment Type: Full-Time/Temp-to-Hire

Pay: $17+ per hour (DOE)

Position Overview

Legacy Staffing is seeking compassionate and reliable Direct Care Staff on behalf of our client, a residential program serving individuals with mental health conditions. This role is essential for providing care, supervision, and support to residents, helping them develop life skills and maintain a safe, structured environment. The ideal candidate will have experience working with mentally ill populations and a strong commitment to client well-being.

Key Responsibilities

Care & Supervision:

• Provide on-site monitoring and assistance to residents
• Support individualized service plans and daily schedules
• Supervise medication administration per physician instructions
• Conduct room checks and light housekeeping
• Ensure compliance with house rules and provide crisis intervention when needed

Group Activities:

• Assist with organizing and supervising recreational, social, and cultural activities
• Instruction:Model and teach daily living skills such as personal care, budgeting, shopping, and maintaining an orderly home environment

Transportation:

• Provide transportation for group outings

Meetings & Reporting:

• Participate in staff meetings and training sessions
• Maintain client confidentiality and report unusual situations promptly

Qualifications & Requirements

• Minimum 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent
• Two years of experience providing services to mentally ill or similar populations
• Valid California driver's license, reliable vehicle, and clean driving record
• Ability to pass health screening, TB test, and criminal background check
• Strong communication skills and personal qualities of warmth, responsibility, and respect
• ASL proficiency preferred but not required

Shifts Available

• 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM
• 3:30 PM – 11:30 PM
• 11:30 PM – 7:30 AM (fixed night shift)
• Flexibility to rotate between morning and afternoon shifts preferred
