QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires knowledge of proper office methods, techniques and procedures including report writing and proper telephone techniques; proper English usage, grammar, punctuation, and spelling; word processing techniques and knowledge of the Spanish language.
Must possess the skill to learn the operations, procedures, policies and requirements of assigned operational units and apply them with good judgment; learn, interpret, and successfully apply District rules and policies while independently carrying out a variety of technical procedures; understand and carry out a variety of oral and written instructions; establish and maintain efficient record keeping/filing systems and prepare routine reports; coordinate activities and details and maintain effective schedules of events; analyze situations and take appropriate action regarding routine procedural matters without immediate supervision; operate a variety of standard office machines and equipment including typewriter, calculator, copier, computer terminal, etc.; effectively and tactfully communicate in both oral and written forms in both English and Spanish.
Must possess the ability to type 50 NET WPM; attend meetings and take non-verbatim notes/minutes; perform mathematical calculations accurately; perform and/or oversee a wide variety of clerical, secretarial, and operational support activities; act as an office receptionist, answer telephones, make reservations and appointments; arrange and schedule a variety of meetings; notify participants, confirm dates and times, reserve meeting sties, and prepare materials needed at the meetings; receive, review, and verify documents, records, and forms for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the course of work; perform related functions as required.
Requires two years of responsible clerical experience, preferably involving considerable public contact. Must pass the District bilingual certification test in Oral, Reading and Writing Proficiency in Spanish.
A RECENT FIVE MINUTE TYPING CERTIFICATE MUST ACCOMPANY APPLICATION TO BE SUCCESSFUL. Certificates must be less than two years old and cannot be completed through an online website. Kern High School District employees who currently work in a position requiring the same or higher minimum typing speed do not need to submit a typing certificate.
A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.
DUTIES OF POSITION: To perform a variety of complex and responsible clerical/secretarial functions in support of the day-to-day operations relating to specific programs and procedures within assigned operational unit, department, or school office. Interprets orally and translates written material in Spanish as required. Employees in this classification receive limited supervision from a department/school site administrator with a framework of standard policies and procedures. This position performs a wide variety of complex and responsible secretarial/operational support functions. This job classification requires the use of initiative, problem solving skills, and independent judgment.
STARTING SALARY: $3,913.30 (monthly)
NUMBER OF MONTHS: 10 (to begin as soon as possible)
NUMBER OF HOURS: 8 (daily working hours to be 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)
