QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires comprehensive knowledge of athletic injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation. Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to supervise and mentor athletic trainers. Advanced clinical and decision-making skills in emergency and non-emergency situations. Ability to plan, organize, and implement district wide health and safety programs. Excellent communications and interpersonal skills for working collaboratively with coaches, staff, administrators, students, parents and medical professionals. Ability to train and certify coaches and staff in first aid, CPR/AED, and safety procedure. Proficient in managing confidential records and maintaining compliance with legal and ethical standards.
Must possess the ability to provide leadership and supervision to school site athletic trainers, ensuring consistent implementation of district health, safety, and injury management protocols; Coordinate and evaluate the athletic training services provided across all district athletic programs. Oversee the development, communication, and enforcement of policies related to student-athlete health, safety, and return to play procedures; Serves as the district's primary liaison with physicians, medical professionals, and community partners regarding sports medicine practices and student-athlete health care; Monitor environmental safety conditions including heat index, air quality index (AQI), and inclement weather, ensuring that appropriate adjustments are made to protect athletes and comply with district and state regulations; Organize and conduct first aid, CPR/AED, concussion awareness, and emergency response training for coaches, athletic staff, and volunteers; Review and update Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for all athletic facilities; ensure readiness and compliance at all sites; Develop and implement injury prevention, rehabilitation, and wellness programs for student athletes; Oversee the maintenance and security of injury records, treatment documentation, and medical supplies at all school sites; Support regional athletic trainers with scheduling, coverage assignments, and continuing education opportunities; Evaluate the performance of site athletic trainers and provide mentoring and professional support; Collaborate with athletic; directors and site administrators to ensure safe athletic facilities and adherence to CIF, district, and state regulations; Develop and manage the athletic training budget, including supply ordering and inventory control; Remain current on best practices and emerging trends in sports medicine and athletic training.
Minimum three (3) years' experience as a certified athletic trainer; supervisory or leadership experience preferred. Current certification in CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and First Aid.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in athletic training, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or related field required. Masters' degree preferred; Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) certification required; Current Board Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers; Licensed or eligible for licensure by the State of California (or applicable state regulatory agency).
First Aid Certificate as issued by the American Red Cross.
A PRE-EMPLOYMENT MEDICAL ASSESSMENT AND A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.
DUTIES OF POSITION: The Lead Certified Athletic Trainer oversees the district's athletic program, ensuring the lightest standards of care, safety, and injury prevention for all student athletes. This position provides administrative leadership and coordination for site-based athletic trainers, manages district-wide health and safety protocols, and collaborates with coaches, administrators, and healthcare providers to promote the well-being of student athletes. The Lead Athletic Trainer also develops and implements professional development, environmental safety monitoring, and emergency response training for staff and coaches.
STARTING SALARY: $8,574.30 (monthly)
NUMBER OF MONTHS: 12 (to begin as soon as possible)
NUMBER OF HOURS: 8 (daily working hours 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.)
