QUALIFICATIONS position requires knowledge of basic office practices and procedures, as well as correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; telephone techniques and etiquette, basic policies and procedures related to student registration, admissions, records maintenance and word processing techniques.

Must possess the skill to type accurately at a rate of 45 net wpm; understand and carry out both oral and written instructions in an independent manner; perform mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy; compile and maintain accurate and complete records; prepare related reports; analyze situations and take appropriate action; operate a variety of office equipment; assist in processing forms, applications, documents, records or other paperwork in support of specialized program; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties.

Two years of general clerical experience, preferably with some involvement in the registration of students, is required.

A RECENT FIVE MINUTE TYPING CERTIFICATE MUST ACCOMPANY APPLICATION TO BE SUCCESSFUL. Certificates must be less than two years old and cannot be completed through an online website. Kern High School District employees who currently work in a position requiring the same or higher minimum typing speed do not need to submit a typing certificate.

A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.

DUTIES OF POSITION: Under general supervision of a school administrator perform a variety of responsible clerical duties involved in student registration, admissions and records maintenance, and other support services for school administrators. This position is responsible for maintaining the accuracy, timeliness, and confidentiality of students' permanent record cards. Requires attention to detail, organizational skills and the knowledge of specialized areas of school administration policies and procedures. Must be able to choose among a limited number of alternatives in solving routine problems; will have various responsibilities in several areas.

STARTING SALARY: $3,851.67 (monthly)

NUMBER OF MONTHS: 10.5 (to begin as soon as possible)

NUMBER OF HOURS: 8 (daily working hours 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
(Registration Clerk 6 hrs /Clerical Specialist 2 hrs)
