Summary

Performs activities to support one or more teachers or coordinators of before/after school instructional programs by assisting with age-appropriate learning/recreational activities and subject matter tutoring. Assists in the development and implementation of activities and materials to enhance the student learning experiences.

Distinguishing Career Features

The Extended Day Assistant - Before/After School Program serves the District in an instructional support and activity coordination role. The position requires competency in supporting preschool and elementary subject matter and the ability to organize student activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Works on an in-depth basis with small peer groups and/or individual students on special subjects, exercises, and activities that support the curriculum.
Organizes play and exploration activities that support the curriculum. Observes games, play, and individualized activity to assure student safety.
May accompany students on District-sponsored field trips.
Assist with the implementation of activities.
Monitors learning center activities. Observes, monitor, and control the behavior of students within approved procedures.
Applies positive reinforcement with students. Uses appropriate discipline.
Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
