Description
The Mill Manager will monitor and coordinate the effective and efficient utilization of employees
through proactive, high participation, work team involvement. The position directs all day-to-day
activities of the mill, including both the paper and converted products lines, consistent with
company policies and procedures. This position manages the production, quality, and safety of the
various products to meet the Company's goals and objectives in a safe and effective manner. Monitor
and coordinate personnel activities and equipment as well as direct daily operations consistent with
company policies and procedures. Report on KPIs, key process metrics, workforce, production, and
opportunities to the Senior VP of Manufacturing. Promote teamwork within the management teams
and on the mill floor.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Foster and enhance the safety culture to achieve safety excellence.
• Provide operational and employee leadership to the facility, striving for quality excellence.
• Drive productivity, quality, and performance through the daily use of KPIs.
• Manage financial performance and make required changes as needed to meet business
commitments.
• Manage all aspects of the mill cost structure including direct and indirect labor, maintenance,
and consumable spending, and proactively control business volume swings to preserve
profitability.
• Assist operating management with budgeting, production statistics, cost analysis,
justification of capital expenditures, and asset management.
• Lead the facility in establishing and meeting continuous improvement objectives.
• Partner with various leaders to develop and maintain a positive culture consistent with
California Paper Products' values, behaviors, and mission.
• Encourage and support the development of all mill employees.
• Responsible for overall performance efficiencies and competitive service level for the mill.
• Participate in process improvement and cost savings efforts.
• Responsible for incorporating continuous quality improvement principles into daily quality
culture.
• Assures compliance with state and federal regulatory matters including OSHA, EPA, EEO
and Affirmative Action, and Quality Audits.
• Overall management responsibility for the implementation of mandatory and best practice
sharing for cost savings, safety compliance, and reduced employee hazard exposure.
• Coordinates the effective utilization of production capacity, staffing and equipment through
planning, organizing, and scheduling.
• Continuously improves customer satisfaction through programs to provide on-time delivery
that meets and/or exceeds customer quality and cost expectations.
• Overall management responsibility for all aspects of quality including product performance,
complaint resolution, customer satisfaction, and maintenance and improvement of quality systems.
• Maintains a sense of urgency and accountability in the mill to ensure prompt responses to
employee needs.
• Ensures the protection of company assets through appropriate maintenance methodologies.
• Monitors raw materials and supplies on hand to ensure adequate supply.
• Maintain 24 hour/day on call availability to deal with potential problems/issues.
• Promote teamwork, professionalism, and respect among all employees.
• Implement employee training and cross-training to perform production job functions.
• Conduct formal and informal performance reviews reporting to this position.
• Audit the production records for complete and accurate information.
• Recommend for hire, disciplinary action, and termination.
• Interact professionally and appropriately with sales and customers.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education, Certifications, and Experience
• Minimum of 10 years papermaking and management experience required.
• Bachelor's Degree required preferable in Engineering.
Work Conditions
• On call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
• Walking throughout the property several times a day.
• General bending and lifting required.
• May be exposed to general manufacturing hazards in the mill environment.
• On-site safety gear required as defined by the mill environment, and federal, state, and local safety rules and regulations.
Salary Range: $175k - $180k/year
